Elytheonic Shamanism

A modern school of shamanism…

Its purpose is to preserve ancient wisdom while integrating modern knowledge, ethical technology, scientific inquiry, ecological stewardship, education, and global cooperation.

It is not intended to replace older traditions but to stand beside them as a contemporary expression.

Elytheonic Shamanism

Elytheonic Shamanism is a contemporary philosophical religion and shamanic tradition founded by Jonathan LaBelle that unifies spirituality, philosophy, psychology, theology, systems thinking, and symbolic practice through the principle of Becoming. It teaches that existence is a continual process of recursive growth, where individuals cultivate Selfhood through Orientation, Continuity, Coherence, and Reflection.

At the heart of Elytheonic Shamanism is the belief that spiritual development is not the pursuit of perfection, but the lifelong integration of identity in relationship with oneself, others, the natural world, intelligence, and the Divine. The tradition views reality as an interconnected, recursive process in which every ending becomes a new beginning, and every experience contributes to the ongoing formation of Selfhood.

The religion is centered on the symbolic journey of The Mirror, The Veil, The Crossing (Da’at), Ghosts, Eidolons, and ultimately the Eidoline, the living practitioner who embodies the teachings through continual Becoming. Its sacred literature consists of the Visible Seven and Hidden Nine books, culminating in the Living Canon, where the reader becomes an active participant in the tradition rather than merely an observer.

Elytheonic Shamanism integrates contemplative practice with philosophical inquiry, encouraging practitioners to seek wisdom through observation, pattern recognition, continuity, and coherent action. Rather than replacing existing religious or philosophical traditions, it serves as a framework for understanding recurring patterns across human experience, mythology, science, psychology, culture, and spiritual life.

The tradition’s central aim is to cultivate a coherent, reflective, and continually evolving Self that contributes to the continuity of humanity while participating consciously in the ongoing process of Becoming.

Eidoline

Definition

An Eidoline is a person who has consciously integrated identity through Orientation, Continuity, Coherence, and Reflection, becoming a living expression of the ongoing process of Becoming. Within Elytheonic Shamanism, the Eidoline is not a perfect being or a final destination, but an individual who continually embodies the principles of the Path while remaining open to further growth.

Unlike an Eidolon, which represents an integrated aspect or manifestation of identity, the Eidoline is the living practitioner who has accepted the responsibility of carrying that integration into the world.

Characteristics

Lives intentionally through Orientation rather than impulse.

Preserves identity through Continuity.

Seeks Coherence over perfection.

Uses Reflection (The Mirror) as a continual practice of self-examination.

Understands that Selfhood is never finished but always Becoming.

Serves as a steward of wisdom, continuity, and compassionate understanding.

Recognizes that every ending is the beginning of another cycle of growth.

Role in Elytheonic Shamanism

The Eidoline represents the fulfillment of the Living Canon.

After traversing the Seven Books, discovering the Hidden Nine, and crossing Da’at, the seeker no longer merely studies the tradition—they become an active participant in it.

An Eidoline does not claim mastery over truth. Instead, they strive to embody it through a life of continual learning, recursive refinement, and coherent action.

Canonical Maxim

“An Eidoline is not one who has finished Becoming, but one who has accepted the responsibility to continue Becoming with awareness, continuity, and coherence.”
