Jonathan means “Gift of God”, “God has Given”, “Given by God” or “God has Risen”

It’s an ancient Hebrew boy’s name.

Yonatan, meaning “Yahweh has given”, derived from the roots Yeho (יְהוֹ) referring to the Hebrew God and the verb Natan (נָתַן) meaning “to give”.

I have found no other language that changes this translation much. Even having checked ancient Greek and Viking origins.

I believe this to be because even in the ancient literal sense it falls into the language category standard of Noun with Verb attached. Making it less of a name by old standards. A popular name now but old words back then.

It translated to the English version Jonathan with the print of the Bible. Jonathan is the oldest son of King Saul. He befriends and is the one who saves David. He also plays a major role in defeating the Philistines.
